CHALLENGE

Vietnam’s economy has been expanding rapidly, leading to a significant increase in electricity consumption. The country has historically depended on coal and hydropower, but domestic coal reserves are limited, and hydropower capacity is nearly maxed out.

SOLUTION

Vietnam has vast solar and wind potential, especially in the Central and Southern regions. Pacifico sought to develop a project that could harness the power of wind while minimizing impact to the environment.

Located on the Mekong River Delta approximately 140 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, the Sunpro project in Ben Tre is Pacifico Energy Vietnam's first onshore utility-scale wind development.

RESULTS

Vietnam has pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 under the Paris Agreement. Transitioning to renewables helps cut greenhouse gas emissions and reduce air pollution.

The Sunpro project enables Vietnam to do so in an affordable manner, utilizing farmed land in the MeKong delta to produce renewable electricity.
